Coding Students are Well-Advised to Join the FB Group Jobs For American Medical Coders. It's a great place for networking.  Lots of medical coders go there and quite a few recruiters too.   Great informational discussions - and some not so great but often fun anyway.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/JFAMC/

I really like this group!  I posted a question about making the transition from MT to coding, and a lady in Oregon offered that I could PM her.  She had been an MT and has now been coding for about 5 years.  I thought that was super nice, and I've asked her a lot of questions.  She's been very helpful.  I even passed along an idea I got from Instructor Melissa about how to handle the huge spiral on the ICD-10-CM book.  She liked it.  It IS a great place to get ideas about places to work and different types of positions for coders, once we're out in the working world!

Sarah,

Could you pass along that info about the spiral-bound here too, please?

I would like to hear about how you handle that huge spiral on the new ICD.  !!

Thanks, Donna G

Sure.  " What I did was bent the ends of the spiral (top and bottom) and intertwined them between the first and second spiral.  Never had a problem since!  Hope this helps!"   This came from Instructor Melissa.  It took some pliers and 4 hands probably would have been better than 2, but it worked great for me!

This is the FB group I joined before even starting in the industry!  I wasn't sure if Medical Coding was for me, so I joined and started reading through certain posts.  I also asked the group about the BEST SCHOOL, which soooooo many lead me here, to The Andrews School.   I must say, this group has been fantastic!  Highly recommend.
