There's a group on Facebook that I'm in - it's Medical Transciptionists Unite! I also recently found another one, but I haven't joined. It's called MT America. There's another one there, Medical Transcription Networking Corner, that I recently joined. I'm glad I'm in both of them - not all the catty comments and complaints you find on MT Stars :(

That's one reason I would love to have more of an Andrews presence on MTStars and other places. The more positive influence Andrews grads have in those groups, the more those complainers and whiners are outnumbered.

By the way, I never post on MTStars and haven't for years. It's just not a good idea for me to go in there and say positive things about our school, the programs we teach, or our graduates. Since I would have to post under my own name, when other people don't, I wouldn't be able to hide my true feelings at some of the ignorance about our industry that is continually being posted as fact.  If we could look through and see who really posts some of these things, it would be easy for us to determine who is credible and who isn't. Since we can't, someone hitting those sites as a lark and then moving on, with no knowledge or experience in the field, posts with as much authority as those who know what they are talking about. The only way to fight that is by having more 'intelligent' posts than 'drive-by' ones.

Actually, many of our students and graduates first heard about us on MTStars. It isn't all bad 100% of the time. :)

Well said about MT Stars, Linda.  I have often wondered why a less, er, strident forum for MTs could never stay the course... there have been a few over the years, but they have all dwindled away.  

Speaking of dwindling, and websites, there is, of course, this site. =) What with school and such I've neglected the old Horse sadly, and soon it will be going "fallow" as I'll no longer have access to fuel for it in my new job... but it'll stay parked indefinitely and I may occasionally add posts... as I still have MT buddies who share bloopers with me.

Any Coding sites that are recommended?

I "joined" a few MT pages on Facebook, hoping they would be helpful/informative, and they scared me with their negativity so I left. I'd rather read the boards here and feel better about my new career path. :)

It appears there are several MT sites. I, however, am looking for a Coding site where I could ask quick general coding questions. I know we can't rely on information from unofficial sites but it would be nice to ask and receive input in real time. Is there such a site for working and/or student coders?

I happened to know that there is a BRILLIANT and EXPERT medical coder who frequents the coding board at MT Stars. I know! I know!  Miserable place to be sometimes, but the more positive comments there, the more the personality and character of that board will change for the better. I never post there because it isn't appropriate for me to do that, but some of the best information (and some of the worst) happens on there.

Try asking a general coding question there. I think you'll get more help than you think. Don't identify yourself. Don't respond to e-mail sent to you from there, because that will identify you. There is no need to identify yourself. Stay anonymous and post anything you want. That's one of the positives of being there. There are lots of negatives. Just ignore those and post helpful, informative comments and/or questions.  If enough people do that, the board itself will improve. There will still be the occasional 'drive-by' trolls, but who cares! Make it a tool that works for you.
