When you are working on computers, you MUST use the number '1' and not an upper-case i 'I' because that upper-case 'I' is not a number. The computer won't see it as one. You will lose points. You will have incorrect codes.

The same thing with the ZERO '0' vs the letter 'O' which, by the way, is not acceptable when you are dealing with numbers.

Clear as mud?   These two little tips will save some of you some important points off.

I have never used numbers for letters or letters for number as I work in the accounting field and it is also unacceptable there, that being said, I am still finding it confusing in the obstetric chapter having O and zero next to each other:)  Will need to be very careful entering those exam codes:)

You may also notice that on some answer keys, these two items are occasionally switched between letters or numbers. I just point to the answer key and say "oops, you're wrong."  Keeps us on our toes to do it right.

Thanks Linda for this tidbit.  On the pregnancy section, I got a little confused between 0 and O also and had to double and triple check my answers to make sure they were correct.  Low and behold on my suggestions from Instructor Sue, she pointed out that in one my analyses I used "I" instead of number 1.   Thanks for this post.
