HCS-O Certification

Hello!

I am very interested in pursuing a career in home health coding. Upon researching job postings most companies require HCS-O certification. I am curious if anyone has taken this exam and if this course will prepare us for it.

Thanks!

Kendell

Dear Kendell,

I have a HCS-D and a HCS-O credential and have taken the exams. If you do not have a HCS-D credential, I would pursue this one first. This is the credential for diagnosis coding in the home health industry. The HCS-O is the credential to review and audit OASIS documents performed by the home health nurse. Most home health companies prefer both an HCS-D and an HCS-O and many require a RN credential as well. However, some of the home health nurses do not have  medical coding skills so the companies sometimes hires coders with a HCS-D. Both exams are challenging. I took a couples of  online classes from Selman Holeman CodePro U and would highly recommend them.
