Could anyone give some tips for taking notes in my ICD-10 draft and or coding handbook?
Re: Note taking for ICD-10
You probably want to use pencil, and write neatly, anything that you think will be helpful down the road, when you are studying, coding, and taking the CPC. There's some tips on note-taking in your code books in the readings in Module 1, if I remember right. This might be a good question for the instructors to address better. I remember hearing about people taking notes back when I first started too, and I thought, "Wow, I don't have any notes written in my code books. Should I be writing notes?" So, I think it's an individual thing, and varies from person to person on what you deem important. Just make sure you write it where it will be easy to find later. I don't know if this helps you much! Good luck in your future studies!
Re: Note taking for ICD-10
Hi Megan,
Section 2 - Introduction to Coding, Part 2, has a reading called ICD-10-CM Quick Reference Information, at the very bottom Instructor Debby has written down the best way to go about writing in the code books. I hope this helps. :)

Re: Note taking for ICD-10
Is there a reason we cannot use a highlighter or pen in the ICD-10 book? Everyone mentions pencil only, why?
Re: Note taking for ICD-10
Hi Karen,
The reason is that the ink bleeds through with regular highlighters since the paper is much thinner, though it is not as thin as what they make Bible's out of. The Christian book store near me sells a pack of 4 colored highlighter pencils that I use on all my coding books, and works very well. You can also check out Amazon, they have a bunch of highlighters greared more towards thinner paper. Hope this helps.

Re: Note taking for ICD-10
Also, pencil is erasable, if you make a mistake or want to remove something later, but pen and highlighters are pretty much permanent. I love the mechanical pencils for my notes, because they're always nice and sharp.
